Even though Chennai Super Kings is the winner of the IPL 2010 title, Sachin Tendulkar won the title of “Man of the Series” by his terrific performance in the DLF Tournament of T-20 live cricket series.

Chennai began very progressively & gradually but in second half, Raina & Dhoni began banging the Mumbai speed attack. Raina scored 57 in 35 balls which consisted 3 sixes & 3 fours. Chennai made a total of 168 runs which was not very much easy to follow. Batting second, Mumbai Indians too chased the Chennai but they proved slow in comparison of Chennai team.

Tendulkar couldn’t show his anger & lost his wicket at such a vital time when the team required him most. Pollard was the only player which increased anticipation for Mumbai, but it was so much late to secure a win. Mumbai made only 146 runs in 20 overs after and thus lost the match by 22 runs.

So here is the winner – and its none other than India’s captain Dhoni’s team Chennai Super Kings. He proved himself a good captain again with his stupendo – fantastic performance.

Playing first Chennai started very steadily and slowly but in second half, Raina and Dhoni started banging the Mumbai pace attack. Raina hit 57 in 35 balls which included 3 sixes and 3 fours.

Chennai score a decent total of 168 runs which was not easy to chase. Batting second, Mumbai also followed the footsteps and was more slower than Chennai even.

Dhawan gone for duck. Tendulkar couldn’t show his fury and got out at the time when his team needed him most. Pollard was the single player which raised hope for Mumbai, but it was too late and too much pressure was on him which he couldn’t bear.

Kings are actually the kings. Achieving victory over Mumbai Indians by 22 runs Chennai Super Kings proved their mettle.

Sunday night brought the privilege for Chennai Super Kings when they won the title of IPL 3 Champions. After winning the toss, Chennai decided to bat first and raised 168 runs for Mumbai to chase.

Raina’s invincible 57 runs was first step they put towards their victory. And second was left-arm spinner Shadab Jakati who made 2 for 26 while Doug Bollinger, Albie Morkel, Muttiah Muralitharan and Suresh Raina took one wicket each.

Earlier, Raina got a lifeline when Mumbai dropped his catch twice tahts results in Raina’s 57 not out studded with three sixes and three fours.

If Raina and Dhoni won’t lead their partnership to 72 runs they won’t be able to settle with such a high score.

Other batsmen in Chennai like Matthew Hayden and Murali Vijay scored 17 and 26.

After creating a handsome score Chennai constrained Mumbai to 146 runs on 9 wickets and won its IPL title at the DY Patil stadium in Mumbai.

Though Chennai became conscious at the time Kieron pollard was playing. He single handedly threatened Chennai till he was declared out in the penultimate over.

Mumbai made it for the first time in finals while it was second time for Chennai to play in finals. Earlier it was runner up to Rajasthan Royals in 2008.

Being the most consistent team of this tournament by winning 10 of their 14 tournament games Mumbai just failed in the final. Captain Sachin Tendulkar who got his hand injured still declared that he is fit to play in Grand Finale scored 48 on 45 didn’t got much support from his batting line.

Mumbai opened its batting line with Shikhar Dhawan who got bowled out by Bollinger in the very second over even without scoring a single run.

Till fifth over when Sachin and Nayar stroked two fours each off Ashwin game turned promising for them. After second power play Sachin again studded Albie Morkel’s over with two fours.

While Muthaiya was bowling Nayar turned lucky when Hayden dropped his catch. Thereafter, he hit two sixes and took Mumbai’s score to 58. Later he got run out on 27 on 26.

In the 15th over when Tendulkar got out all hopes were crushed at the Mumbai’s side. Then Saurabh Twari went on duck by Raina and Jakati.

Then arrived Kieron Pollard who all alone took the accountability and scored 22 runs in 18th over by Bollinger.

In the last two overs when Mumbai needed 33 runs to win Rayudu got run out in penultimate over following him Kieron got out on the next ball. And Mumbai dreams shattered then and there.

For Mumbai, Dilhara Fernando came out as the booming bowler with 2 for 23 while Zaheer Khan and Kieron Pollard managed one wicket each.

For Mumbai, Captain Sachin Tendulkar winning the man of the series award came as to only contentment.

IPL winner 2010: IPL 3 final 2010 finals between strong contenders Mumbai Indians against Chennai Super Kings was won by Chennai Super Kings with a margin of 22 runs. The finale was thrilling, as expected with Sachin Tendulkar’s presence in the match, as it was doubtful whether is would play the finale owing to his right arm injury. But it seems that even Sachin could not stop Dhoni’s ferocious team who were in for the victory right from the beginning.

IPL 3 final at the packed to capacity D Y Patil stadium was a cricketers’ delight.

It was nothing less than a clash of the titans. CSK played consistently well from the start with Raina accumulating 57 off 35 balls and remained not out thanks to MI who dropped two of his catches on 13 and 28. He was instrumental in adding precious 110 to CSK’s score board in the last 10 overs. It was clearly CSK’s day at the IPL 2010 finals as they managed to put a target of 169 runs before MI. The IPL 3 winner CSK enjoyed this sweet success that could not make it to IPL first season at the hands of Rajasthan Royals.

IPL 3 final at the D Y Patil stadium could not go to Mumbai Indians as the team found it difficult from the very start to chase the victory target of 169 runs. Sachin Tendulkar, captain MI scored a decent 48 with his right arm that had 5 stitches. The middle order of MI failed dramatically and much was left for Kieron Pollard but that was too late for MI who needed 55 runs off 18 balls. Pollard could not survive Hayden’s ball and got caught by Morkel on 27 off 10 balls. Shikhar Dhawan was dismissed at 0 and Nayar was run out on 27. Even S Tiwary got out at a duck.

The trophy of IPL 3 final went to CSK who emerged as real kings by registering a 22 runs victory over Mumbai Indians. Captain Mahender Singh Dhoni also became the 5th Indian to score 1500 runs in T20 cricket. Suresh Raina also completed his 1500 runs on his 57 run trail.

The Korea Republic national football team (Korean: Daehanminguk Chukgu Gukga Daepyo Team) represents the Republic of Korea in international football competitions. The team, also known as South Korea, is recognized as Korea Republic by FIFA to distinguish it from Korea DPR in the north.

South Korea has participated in eight World Cup final tournaments and became the first and only Asian team to reach the semi-finals, doing so when it co-hosted the 2002 FIFA World Cup with Japan. South Korea is considered as one of the most successful international football teams in Asia. It has qualified for its eighth World Cup final tournament, the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, having been the only unbeaten team during the AFC qualification tournament. It won the first two editions of the AFC Asian Cup.

World Cup history-

South Korea has emerged as a major football power in Asia, winning several prestigious Asian football championships, including the first two Asian Cup tournaments. The South Korean national team has also played in seven consecutive World Cup finals (from 1986), making a total of eight World Cup finals in all.

In their first World Cup finals tournament, the 1954 World Cup as the second Asian team to ever enter the World Cup after the Dutch East Indies, South Korea played games against Hungary and Turkey, losing 9–0 and 7–0 respectively. It took 32 years before South Korea were able to participate in the World Cup finals again, when they qualified for the 1986 World Cup held in Mexico City. They lost 3–1 to Argentina, drew 1–1 with Bulgaria, and lost 3–2 to Italy.

This difficult streak held until the 2002 FIFA World Cup (which it co-hosted with Japan), in which the South Korean national team earned many wins and finished fourth place overall.

 2002 World Cup-

Led by Dutch coach Guus Hiddink and assistant coach Pim Verbeek, South Korea defeated Portugal, Italy Spain, then lost 1–0 to Germany in the semifinals, and 3–2 to Turkey in the 3rd place match. and

 2006 World Cup-

During the 2006 World Cup, South Korea achieved their first World Cup victory outside Asia by beating Togo 2–1. They then drew 1–1 against France, but lost 2–0 to Switzerland, which knocked them out of the tournament.

 2010 World Cup-

South Korea won the 2010 World Cup AFC qualification with 16 points – 7 wins and 7 draws in total – making them the only team unbeaten throughout the whole campaign. They then qualified for the knockout stages of the 2010 World Cup with 4 points, winning 2–0 against Greece, losing 4–1 to Argentina and drawing 2–2 with Nigeria. At the knockout stage they met Uruguay, which ended in a 2-1 loss for South Korea, eliminating them from the tournament.

The Democratic People's Republic of Korea national football team (recognized as Korea DPR by FIFA and known colloquially and in the media as North Korea) represents the Democratic People's Republic of Korea in international association football and is controlled by the DPR Korea Football Association, the governing body for football in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.


 
Korea DPR surprised many observers with a good showing at their debut at a World Cup, reaching the quarter-finals in 1966, beating Italy in the group stage. Controversy arose during the 2006 World Cup Qualifiers, when the team's supporters caused problems because of the team's failure to qualify. In 2009, the team qualified for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, the second World Cup appearance in their history. Korea DPR have qualified for the AFC Asian Cup three times; in 1980, when they finished fourth, in 1992 and in 2011. The current team is composed of both native North Koreans and Chongryon-affiliated Koreans born in Japan.

2006 World Cup qualifying stage controversy-

In March 2005, Korea DPR entered a match with Iran with limited chances of qualifying for the World Cup finals due to poor performance in early fixtures. During the match hosted in Pyongyang, North Korean fans became enraged when the referee failed to award Korea DPR with a penalty kick after a controversial play near the end of the match. Demanding a penalty, they rushed Syrian referee Mohamed Kousa, who instead gave a North Korean player a red card. Bottles, stones and chairs were thrown onto the field following the play. After the match was over, North Korean fans refused to let the Iranian team leave the stadium on their team bus. The violence was so severe that riot police forced back the crowd. Following this incident, Korea DPR lost its right to host the subsequent home match with Japan and the game was instead played behind closed doors to an empty stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.

The Korea DPR football team qualified for the 2010 FIFA World Cup after finishing 2nd place in Group B of Asian qualifying. Their finishing place was not decided until the day of the last fixture of the group, in which they needed not only to avoid defeat in a match against Saudi Arabia, but also rely on Iran not winning in a match against South Korea. In the end, after possessing the same amount of points as Saudi Arabia, Korea DPR qualified through goal difference.

2010 was Korea DPR's second appearance at the World Cup finals and the first since 1966. The draw placed Korea DPR in Group G. They played their first match against five-time winners Brazil on 15 June, with Brazil winning 2 goals to 1 in a game where North Korea were well organised defensively and showed resiliance frustrating the Brazilians. Despite their best efforts, they were nevertheless outmatched and eventually broken down. Maicon's relief was visible after his goal to finally put Brazil ahead in what was what only can be described as an impressive loss.

Their next game was against Portugal on 21 June, with a defeat of 0–7. Despite starting well (much like against the Brazilians), with a defensive, well organised approach, once Portugal scored the first, the Koreans' defense unfolded and the rest followed with relative ease. Finally Côte d'Ivoire on 25 June, which Korea DPR lost 0–3. After losing all three matches in the group stages, they were knocked out, finishing at the bottom of Group G. It was reported that the small contingency of apparent North Korean soccer fans were actually Chinese, to whom North Korea administration sold their share of tickets. North Korea subsequently denied the report, claiming that a small number were permitted to travel to the World Cup. Korea DPR coach, Kim Jong-Hun, informed the media that he received "regular tactical advice during matches" from Kim Jong-il "using mobile phones that are not visible to the naked eye" and purportedly developed by the Supreme Leader himself.

 

Why Australia won’t host 2022 World Cup-

As a “true-blue” Aussie and lover of football, there is nothing more I would love to see than Australia winning the right to host a World Cup. If I was a betting man, I’d definitely splash some cash on Australia hosting the World Cup… one day. Just not in 2022.

Whilst Frank Lowy and many football followers here in Australia remain optimistic, I have to say I am not.

I feel the 2022 World Cup will go to the USA, for many valid reasons.

First of all, everyone talks of the wonderful event that was the Sydney 2000 Olympics and the incredible job we did at hosting those games. I can remember vividly the buzz that existed around the city for those few weeks back in 2000, and I have no doubt that a World Cup would be even better.

Problem is, what no one is willing to talk about is what a failure the Sydney Olympics was in terms of television ratings.

The 2000 Games were the lowest ratings games in North America, with a significant drop also in Europe from previous Olympics.

I know, the time difference is something we can do nothing about and it’s simply a result of our geography, but even so TV ratings and advertising exposure are a significant part in the decision making. FIFA charge ridiculous sums for advertisers to align themselves with the World Cup, and in exchange advertisers get “exclusive” rights as well as access to billions of viewers.

US television station NBC lost millions after securing the rights to Sydney 2000, with viewers failing to rise for the 2am, 3am and 5am start times – not to mention the cost of sending and accommodating hundreds of staff to cover the Games for the duration.

The 2011 rugby World Cup is being held in this part of the world in New Zealand, where games are scheduled to kick-off at 9pm local time to cater for the northern hemisphere audiences, given the ratings failings of previous sports sojourns, such as 2003 rugby World Cup and Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix.

Another reason why the 2022 World Cup will go to the USA is the sheer economic power it has over Australia.

Global powerhouses like Coca Cola, MasterCard and McDonalds are housed in the United States and are all official FIFA sponsors.

The United States provides a bigger economy, broader market and vast population well in excess of Australia’s. For commercial partners, the USA makes a hell of a lot more sense.

In football terms, the USA is a developing market and a market that FIFA are determined to win, such was the reasons given as to why the USA was handed the rights to the 1994 World Cup, and the battle is still not assured of victory.
